Armed Gardaí and Criminal Assets Bureau raid eight properties in Monaghan

Eight searches were carried out in north Monaghan today targeting a cross border crime gang. Cash worth €10,000 in euro and sterling notes was seized, along with documents, mobile phones, illicit tobacco and alcohol.

An unknown quantity of Viagra tablets were also seized. The Criminal Assets Bureau and Garda Emergency Response Unit carried out the searches at six residential addresses and two commercial premises this morning.

They were targeting an organised crime gang operating in the border region and Northern Ireland. Gardaí say the gang is “heavily involved in the importation and distribution of illegal cigarettes and counterfeit goods”. No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing.
