The Ballybay-Clones MD say no disrespect was intended by flying flags alongside the tri-colour at half mast over the weekend.

Across the country the Irish flag was outside council and MD buildings at half mast in memory of Detective Garda Colm Horkan, who was killed while on duty last week.

Independent councillor Hughie McElvaney voiced his upset at a recent meeting of the MD that pride flags were flown below the tri-colour in Clones, stating that it was hugely 'disrespectful' to do so, and he had brought it to the attention of the relevant personnel at the time.

However, former Cathaoirleach Pat Treanor, said they were not aware of the protocol and had not realised no flag should be flown when the tri-colour is at half mast, but it was a mistake and once they were made aware, removed the other flags.

Councillor Treanor assured the members that no disrespect was intended and they simply wanted to pay their respects to both Colm Horkan and his family, as well as recognising the LGBT Community.
