Big increase in numbers caught speeding locally

There’s been a dramatic increase in the number of people caught speeding locally.

Figures released by Gardaí show over 450 (453) people were caught speeding in County Monaghan between March and June – up by almost 400 (393) on the same period last year.

The Monaghan Joint Policing Committee heard from Chief Superintendent Christopher Mangan who said the number of Gardaí sectioned in the Traffic Corps in Cavan and Monaghan has been substantially increased.

He said local Gardaí have been working with the PSNI to target cross border traffic issues and praised the local Council for erecting signs on the N2 that warn motorists of the dangers of speeding.
