The Border region can expect winds of up to 100km/h as Storm Hannah hits the country later today.

Cavan and Monaghan are expected to avoid the worst the storm with a Status Orange Wind Warning will come into effect for Clare, Cork, Kerry and Limerick from 4pm. However, Met Eireann has warned more severe weather warnings could come into place. A Status Yellow Wind Warning will come into effect from 11pm for counties in the west, north-west and south-east, including Leitrim and Longford. Motorists are being urged to take extra care out on the roads from 6 o’clock this evening;

Cathal Nolan, of the Midlands Weather Channel, said they are keeping an eye as the storm intensifies rapidly. He warned the Border counties could see gusts of up to 110km/h in exposed areas
