Britney Arendse has won gold for Ireland at the para powerlifting Eger World Cup in Hungary, qualifying for the 2020 Paralympics in Tokyo in the process.
17-year-old Arendse won the junior 73kg event in Eger thanks to successful attempts at 70 and 73kg, finishing sixth overall in the senior competition.
That successful lift at 73 sees Arendse hit the qualifying mark for Tokyo.
Born in South Africa, but living in County Cavan since the age of five, Arendse previously won at February’s Fazza World Cup in Dubai, and has now won at the only two World Cup build-up events this year, that lead into September’s World Championships in Mexico City.
