Calls have been issued for Cavan County Council to provide more social and affordable housing to strengthen the ability for people to remain living in rural Ireland.
Questions were asked at a recent Cavan County Council Meeting as to what actions were being taken to address the derelict premises around the county, as well as the situation regarding the acquisition of funding for social and affordable housing. The Director of Services confirmed that the council are looking to renovate vacant homes, and that a Vacant Homes Officer has now been employed to help tackle the issue.
However, there were also a number of councillors concerned about the inability for many families to provide the required deposit in order to get a loan for housing.
