Calls for mandatory sentences after Gardaí are injured in Bailieborough

The Garda Representative Association has called for mandatory prison sentences for people found guilty of assaulting Gardaí. It’s after three Gardaí were injured in Bailieborough early yesterday morning. They were responding to a public order incident on Main Street between 2.30 and 3am.

Five people were arrested and held for questioning. The Gardaí were injured during the public order incident but their injuries are believed to be minor and they’ve since returned to duty. The Garda Representative Association has condemned the incident and says there’s been an increase in the number of such incidents locally in recent weeks.

The group’s called for mandatory prison sentences for people convicted of assaulting a Garda in the course of their work. Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information to contact them on 042-9694570.
