Calls locally for state intervention to tackle insurance issues for the childcare sector.
A motion of urgent business was brought forward at a recent Monaghan County Council meeting by Sinn Fein councillor Colm Carthy to engage with all insurance providers both nationally and in Europe to find a company willing to provide cover.
The need for action by the government was stressed by councillor Carthy who fears that a domino effect could occur if insurance costs cause the price of childcare to rise placing financial pressure on parents, who may then decide to leave the employment sector.
The motion was unanimously supported with further concerns raised that the lack of competition and rise in premiums could see facilities close.
