Calls for urgent action on Virginia sewage system after housing developments are stalled

Local councillors have called for urgent action on the Virginia Sewage Scheme.

Delays to planned upgrades at the plant have been cited as reasons for housing developments being refused planning permission.

Members of the Ballyjamesduff MD were told that engineers have been on site and they are in the early contract stages of the development, however, the council is limited as it’s Irish Water who has the lead on the project .

Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound councilor T.P O’Reilly said that while it was positive to have people viewing the plant, there was confusion over conflicting reports as to how far on the project was.
