It’s the last day of campaigning ahead of the local and European elections are held tomorrow. Counting of votes will get underway in Drumalee and Threemilehouse on Saturday morning. Voting is already underway in Northern Ireland for the European elections, with voters in The Netherlands also casting their ballots today.

Four sitting Councillors aren’t contesting the election – three in Cavan and one in Monaghan, with a close race expected in some Municipal Districts. Seamus Enright from The Anglo Celt says the three vacancies will make for an interesting competition in Cavan:
The Ballybay-Clones area of Monaghan has lost a seat for this election, down from six to five, with six candidates in the running. Michael McDonnell from The Northern Standard says the changes could make for a quick but interesting race:
