Legislation on ground rents is expected to be in place before Christmas.
The development is good news for some in Carrickmacross who have been part of a long running campaign to update our laws.
As it stands, businesses on the west side of Carrickmacross Main Street must pay ground rent to the Shirley Estate as the property is a freehold. The legislation would allow people to buy the freehold of their property.
The bill was introduced in the Seanad by local Senator Robbie Gallagher and has received cross party support.
The Government tabled its amendments yesterday and it’ll now go to the Dáil and Seanad for their approval.
