Carrickmacross Library to open to public seven days a week

Carrickmacross Library is set to be open seven days a week from the end of April.

It is one of seven libraries that will welcome the self-service ‘My Open Library’, which is currently in operation in 10 locations in the country. This system was introduced under a five year strategy launched by the Department of Rural and Community Development to extend opening hours of libraries nationwide, with the additional hours already seeing a 50% increase in library usage in some locations.

The addition of the self-service system will not impact the current staffing levels, and in some cases may even increase staffed opening hours.However, Karen McCague Branch Librarian in Carrickmacross says each user will have to attend a specific induction, and follow a code of conduct to access the system ;
