Castlerahan progressed to their fourth Hotel Kilmore Cavan senior football final in a row with a three point victory over Lavey in Kingscourt.
Both sides drew 12 points apiece last weekend to require today’s replay.
Castlerahan started brightly and Oisin O’Connell got a goal in the 6th minute .It looked like Castlerahan had one foot in the final when the half-time score gave them a 1-11 to six points lead.
Castlerahan got the opening point of the second half through Enda Flanagan but then Lavey sprang into action.
Lavey’s Chris Conroy scored a goal from a penalty in 33rd minute to put six points between the sides. Three minutes later Castlerahan replied with a point but over the next nine minutes Lavey dominated proceedings kicking five points in a row leaving them trailing by 1-13 to 1-11 after 45 minutes.
In the 54th minute Oisin O’Connell gave Castlerahan a bit of breathing space and a lead of 1-17 to 1-12 going into the closing moments.
In the third minute of injury time a Gerard Smith point for Lavey set up a grandstand finish making it 1-19 to 1-16 but Lavey couldn’t get the elusive goal.
Beaten finalists in the last three seasons Castlerahan now march onto next weekend final in Kingspan Breffini to face Crosserlough.
