Patrick Lynch’s six points fired Cavan into the Ulster Under-20 football semi-final after their 1-13 to 2-4 win over Monaghan in Kingspan Breffni.
Monaghan moved into a two point lead on seven minutes thanks to points from play from Dean Connolly and Ryan Mohan.
Oisin Brady and a Patrick Lynch free restored parity before Monaghan Andrew Woods free on 15 minutes restored Monaghan one point lead.
Then five Patrick Lynch points including three frees and a point from Tiarnan Reilly moved cavan into a four lead 0-8 to 0-4.
A Monaghan goal from Sean Jones and a point from play from Andrew Woods dragged Monaghan back into it as the half-time score read Cavan 0-8 Monaghan 1-4.
Patrick Lynch’s fourth free of the afternoon moved Cavan two clear with Aaron Mohan grabbing Monaghan second goal on 41 minutes as they lead 2-4 to 0-9.
It proved to be Monaghan’s last score of the day with Cormac O’Reilly levelling matters five minutes later with two Patrick lynch frees either side of a Cormac Donohoe free moving Cavan three clear with two minute remaining.
Tiarnan Reilly goal put the icing on the Cavan cake as they progressed by six points to meet Tyrone in the semi-finals.
