Cavan Councillor says the visually impaired are being discriminated against over payments and allowances

Cavan Councillor John Paul Feely is calling on the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection to review the conditions on allowances and payments for people with visual disabilities.

However, Councillor Feely says that while people in receipt of disability allowance are entitled to an income disregard in respect to their spouse or partner, a visually impaired person is not entitled to this disregard.

People with visual impairments were also excluded from the now-suspended Motorised Transport Grant.
