Cavan County Council back calls for parental alienation to be made criminal offence

Cavan County Council has become the third local authority to back calls for parental alienation to be made a criminal offence.

The Forever Fathers group is calling for reform of how family law cases are dealt with.

They say the issue has been ignored for too long and is having a detrimental impact on children as well as the parents affected.

Despite the World Health Organisation recognising parental alienation as an offence and a disorder, it isn’t recognised as such in Ireland.

Councillors in Cavan this week backed the group’s calls for action.
