Cavan County Council have been asked to enter into an agreement with Meath County Council that will facilitate the development of a Greenway between Navan and Kingscourt.
Meath County Council have requested that both sides enter into a Section 85 agreement allowing them to secure funding and manage the construction of the scheme making Meath the licence holder of all lands included in the Greenway proposal including those in Cavan.
The suggested route would run along the disused Navan to Kingscourt rail line, which some members of the Bailieborough-Cootehill MD were concerned might impact the possibility of the establishment of a new rail line to the area.
However, they were advised that no rail service has been guaranteed and rejection of this proposed greenway could see Cavan lose out on the amenity.
It was also explained that any rail service would likely be located along a new section of land.
A draft agreement will now be brought forward for consideration by all councillors at the next Cavan County Council Meeting.
