Cavan drop down the table following Kildare defeat

Cavan suffered a disappointing defeat against Kildare in round six of the Allianz Football League as the Lilywhites won by 1-21 to 20 points at Saint Conleth’s park in Newbridge.

Kildare led by 13 points to nine at half-time and opened up a ten-point lead in the 53rd minute before Cavan finished strongly making the scoreboard look better.

Jack O’Connor’s team led by five points to one after 11 minutes before Cavan accounted for six of the next seven scores to level the game at six points apiece.

The sides were level on a further two occasions before Kildare regained the upper hand holding a four-point buffer at the break.

Kildare had three more points on the board before Cavan got off the mark in the second half.

A brace of points from Christopher Conroy reduced the margin to five points as both scores came from frees, one of which came from roughly 45 metres out.

The Breffni resurgence was short-lived as a minute later when Kildare substitute Fergal Conway found the net giving the hosts an eight point cushion.

Kevin Flynn and Jimmy Hyland then added a point each extending the gap to ten points.
Cavan finished the game stronger outscoring their opponents by nine points to three with almost half of those supplied by Christopher Conroy.

Kildare finished the game with four points to spare as Cavan dropped to fifth place in the Division two standings.
