Competition on the inter-county scene will begin in earnest this weekend with the opening games of the Dr Mc Kenna cup on Sunday.

In Group A Down welcome Queens to Downpatrick with Maggie Farrelly taking charge of that encounter while Derry and Armagh meet in Owenbeg. Both those games are at 2 o clock

Also at 2 in Group B , Monaghan welcome Fermanagh to Clones while St Marys are the visitors to Glenavy to take on Antrim.

Group C again it is 2 o clock throw ins as Donegal and Ulster University meet in Ballybofey while Cavan welcome Tyrone to Kingspan Breffin park.

This fixture will be the first competitive outing for newly appointed Breffni manager Mattie McGleenan the former red hand forward will be going up against his native county and as he remarked to the sports desk it is the ideal opening game to get as it will give him and his side an opportunity to see where they are in comparison to the Ulster champions
