Cavan and Monaghan County Councils settled insurance claims worth over €1.1 million so far this year.
That’s €384,000 more than in the full twelve months of 2018.
Irish Public Bodies paid out on 152 claims on behalf of local authorities in the Northern Sound region in the first three quarters of 2019.
Local authorities are insured by Irish Public Bodies, which deals with claims for issues such as slips and trips on footpaths and damage to cars caused by potholes.
According to details released under the Freedom of Information Act, one million one hundred and sixteen thousand, six hundred and twenty euro (€1,116,620) worth of claims were settled for the local councils up to September.
This breaks down to €647,980 for 81 claims in Monaghan, and €468,640 for 71 claims in Cavan.
That’s an average pay-out of €7,346.
In the whole of 2018, Monaghan had 106 claims worth €357,405 settled, in Cavan there were 71 claims totalling €374,814.
