Cavan and Monaghan had no emergency accommodation for victims of domestic violence last year.

The Director of Women’s Aid Margaret Martin said this comes from years of under funding in the sector.

The Times Ireland edition says many women and children are fleeing abusive situations, only to be told there’s no space for them at refuges – with ten counties in Ireland having no emergency accommodation.

It also claims the government is still counting beds from a Dublin refuge that was closed in 2017 in its statistics for emergency spaces. Speaking to Northern Sound, Margaret Martin explained the situation they find themselves in when trying to help women.
