A Cavan priest has questioned if a move away from religious funeral services in some situations may be appropriate.

This comes following a notice in a parish newsletter in Cork that went viral, when the priest wrote that GAA jerseys on coffins said very little about the person.

This has led to widespread conversations about what is appropriate, meaningful, and suitable at a religious funeral service when remembering the deceased.

Father Jason Murphy, based in Redhills in Cavan has highlighted the need for consultation between the family and priest, as well as sensitivity when approaching this topic.
