Cavan had the lowest average water consumption in the country in 2016 with 298 litres.
New figures from the CSO shows the annual comparison of water use since the introduction of meters, with an 8.4 per cent decrease nationwide between 2015 and 2016.
Cavan had the lowest consumption in 2016, down 4.8 per cent on the previous year, with Monaghan recording an average of just 6 litres more, (304 litres) down 8.4 per cent. – Both well below the national average of 351 litres.
It’s believed the reduction in water usage across the country is largely down to efforts by Irish Water to carry out repairs and fix leaks.
Dublin 6 had the highest average consumption nationwide, while Offaly was the highest of the other 31 counties.
