A local TD has suggested an agreement could soon be struck to help Irish people get visas to travel and work in America.
Under proposed legislation, up to 5000 people from Ireland could become eligible for an E3 visa currently open to Australian citizens only. The US House of Representatives voted to extend the E3 visa to Irish nationals, with it now before the Senate to be signed into law.
Fianna Fail TD Brendan Smith is currently in the US as part of a delegation on Foreign Affairs and Trade but has been meeting with US politicians to discuss the issue of Irish in America. Speaking to Northern Sound News, Deputy Smith said if the Bill gets unanimous approval in the Senate, it could lead the way to dealing with the undocumented Irish.
