Cavan booked their place in the Ulster Minor football championship semi final with a win over Monaghan by 3-14 to 1-15 in a Northern Sound derby played out in Kingspan Breffini Park this evening. They’ll now face Armagh or Down in the semi final.
Cavan started with the opening two points then Monaghan who were playing their second match in the competiton after a win over Fermanagh last weekend drew level then they swapped points before Cavan scored 1-02 with Reilly getting the goal. Monaghan though finished the half strongly and scored eight points in a row to lead by 0-11 to 1-05.
Smith got a goal for Cavan eight minutes into the second half to leave it 2-09 to 0-11 and Cavan seemed to be in control at this point but when McAllister goaled for Monaghan with eight minutes to go there were just two points adrift but Madden got Cavans third goal in the 54th minute to see them through to the next round.
