Chief executive apologises over disruption at Castleblayney Market House due to safety measures

Chief Executive of Monaghan County Council Eamon O’Sullivan has apologised to the people of Castleblayney over disruption caused by construction work on the Market House in the town.

He addressed a crowd of people at the launch of Free Market exhibition in the town last Thursday.

An area of the town has been blocked by safety barriers since January when the building was found to be unstable.

The executive also said that the council will be happy to relax road closures and continue with restoration works when a structural survey has concluded.

At the July meeting of Monaghan County Council, the chief executive said that the council hopes they will be able to seek funding to ensure that the building is used, once structural works have been completed.
