Clontibret halted Scotstown’s drive for five in the Monaghan football final, with a 1-14 to 0-11 win at St Tiernach’s Park in Clones.
Clontibret had led by six points at half-time, nine points to three, extending their lead out to nine points, eight minutes into the second half.
Scotstown fought back to bring the score back to a four point game with Ryan McGuigan’s goal for Clontibret sealing the title with three minutes remaining.
Conor McManus opened the scoring for Clontibret in the second minute and by the 18th minute McManus had added a further two as they led five points to one.
McManus, Killian Lavelle and Pauric Boyle all tapped over scores to extended their six point half-time advantage to nine, before a Rory Beggan free 10 minutes into the second half got Scotstown’s first score of the half to make 12 points to four.

Scotstown rallied with four consecutive points from Conor McCarthy (2), Shane Carey and a second Rory Beggan free.
But McGuigan’s goal three minutes from time moved the gap back to a seven point game and was a bridge to far for Scotstown with Jack Gormley adding an injury time point to make 1-14 to 11 points.
