Community initiatives across Cavan and Monaghan take home top prizes in the All Ireland Community and Council Awards

A number of community groups and local councils in the Northern Sound region have taken home top prizes at last nights All Ireland Community and Council Awards

Cavan Townhall took home gold in the category for Best Heritage Project for their efforts in transforming the hall into a focal point for civic life in Cavan.

Monaghan County Council took home the first prize for the best Connected Council for their Monaghan Alerts Programme.

The Northern Sound region also scored well in environmentally friendly categories; The Belturbet Zero Waste Initiative took home the first prize for the Best Waste Management Programme and the gold merit in the Best Environmental Project went to the Collaborative Action for the Natural Network, set up by Monaghan County Council.

Rossmore forest Park took home the silver prize for the best public park, coming second to Lough Key Forest Park in Roscommon.

The awards celebrate and recognise community groups and councils that work together.
