The contribution of the Sisters of Mercy to the Parish of Muckno is to be commemorated with a plaque

The contribution of the Sisters of Mercy to the Parish of Muckno is to be commemorated with a plaque to be unveiled in the coming days.

The Sisters of Mercy arrived in Castleblayney in 1905, founding the girls national school and Laurel Hill school in the town.

They also took charge of the nursing care provided in Saint Mary’s Hospital from 1926 until the late 90s.

Bishop Larry Duffy and Canon Shane McCaughey will con-celebrate a mass of thanksgiving on Friday evening, with the commemorative plaque being unveiled afterwards.

It’ll be displayed in Saint Mary’s Church in Castleblayney.
