The covid-19 pandemic is “like a hard Brexit over a three week period” for the dairy industry.
That’s the outlook of the Director of Dairy Industry Ireland, Conor Mulvihill.
A new report by Dairy industry Ireland has found the price of milk could fall by up to 20 per cent this year and warns that the industry faces a huge disruption in demand across the globe.
Mr Mulvihill said that there is a lot of work being done to ensure all the milk is processed despite the lack of global demand due to the coronavirus restrictions.
However, he says a lot of support is needed to ensure the survival of dairy farmers.
