Councillors call for action on leaking sewage close to Monaghan housing estate

An update has been sought from Monaghan County Council in relation to leaking sewage at The Corran housing estate on the Cootehill road.

Fine Gael Councillor David Maxwell brought the matter of urgent business to the attention of the council at its monthly meeting yesterday as he believes it is a matter of public safety which must be dealt with immediately.

The ongoing issue in the estate is due to a broken pumping station which is causing a pooling of raw sewage, which is leaking down an embankment and onto a nearby road. Speaking to Northern Sound News yesterday, he outlined what the council proposes to do about problem:
