County Councils hold last meetings ahead of local elections

Both Cavan and Monaghan County Councils are holding their final meetings of the current term today.

Four Councillors will retire from politics at this month’s election, Paddy O’Reilly, Paddy Smith and Fergal Curtin in Cavan and Padraig McNally in Monaghan.

Voters go to the polls on May 24th, with 18 Councillors to be elected in each County. The European elections and referendum on divorce will be held on the same day. Counting of votes will begin on Saturday 25th, with the new Councils will hold their first meetings in mid-June.
