Following on from the remote GAA congress which was held over the weekend, a number of key motions were passed.

The proposal of a split season which will see the All Ireland finals been played in July from 2022 was carried with the re-scheduling of the competitions last year and for this year due to Covid 19, believed to have helped in that decision.

Cynical play in both football and hurling which prevents a goal scoring opportunity inside the 20 metre line, will now see a penalty been awarded and the player who committed the foul been sin binned for 10 minutes.

Only one captain can receive a trophy at a post match presentation, while club championships at senior level can only consist of 16 teams.

Selectors/Maor Foirne have also been banned from entering the field of play, while temporary substitutions for head injuries are now permitted.

The congress also seen Larry Mc Carthy take over as president of the association replacing John Horan.

Finance director Ger Mulryan noted also over the weekend that this year will be as financially challenging as 2020 for the association.

He remarked that the G-A-A are in talks about fresh supports from the government and they're also looking to renegotiate commercial contracts.
