The Dáil has paid tribute to Monica Barnes, a former TD with links to the local region.
The 82 year old, who was originally from Kingscourt and went to school in Carrickmacross, served as a Fine Gael TD and Senator for Dun Laoghaire. She passed away in May.
She was a co-founder of what’s now known the National Women’s Council and is widely known for her work promoting women’s rights during the 1980s and 90s. Ceann Comhairle Seán Ó Fearghaíl lead tributes in the Dáil yesterday to Monica Barnes and former TD Paddy Harte:
