The dangers of drink driving don’t seem to be getting through to people.
That’s the call of Sinn Fein councillor Noel Keelan after it was revealed that almost 1,000 motorists were arrested nationally on suspicion of drink-driving during the Christmas and New Year period.
Figures released by the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice Frances Fitzgerald show that between December 1st and January 8th, a total of 961 people were detained on suspicion of drink-driving.
There were 48 people arrested on suspicion of drink-driving in the Cavan-Monaghan division over the festive period.
