A dedicated Drugs Unit will be up and running in Cavan and Monaghan by the first week in March.
That’s according to the new Chief Superintendent in the Cavan/Monaghan Garda Division – Christopher Mangan.
He made the announcement at the recent Joint Policing Meeting in Cavan, and said that the new unit would consist of 1 Sergeant and 5 Gardaí.
Currently Cavan/Monaghan and Laois/Offaly are the only Garda Divisions in the country without any dedicated drugs unit, after it was disbanded locally in 2011.
In October last year it was announced that a new dedicated Garda Drugs Unit was to be established.
Chief Superintendent Mangan says it will now come on stream in late February/early March.
Meanwhile local Fianna Fáíl TD Brendan Smith has welcomed the progress on the new Garda Drugs Unit for the Cavan/Monaghan Division.
He believes it will have an impact on the sale and supply of Drugs in the area.
