Department confirms asylum seekers being housed in emergency accommodation in Cavan and Monaghan

Almost 700 asylum seekers are being housed in emergency accommodation across Ireland, including in Cavan and Monaghan.

The latest data from the Department of Justice show 19 emergency locations around the country are being used.

Figures released to Northern Sound News in February showed over half of those in emergency accommodation then were being housed in hotels and B&Bs in Monaghan.

However, no specific breakdown is given for the latest figures, which were recorded on May 21st.

The Department does confirm that facilities in Cavan, Monaghan, Meath and Louth are among those being used.
