The Department of Local Government is continuing to work with Cavan County Council after whistleblowers raised concerns about alleged wrongdoing in the local authority. Minister Eoghan Murphy says two separate but related submissions were made under protected disclosures legislation, with both being investigated.
The first was made to the Department, with the Council carrying out an investigation into the allegation. That report was completed and sent to the Department last year. Minister Murphy says he believes it’s being “followed up appropriately by the Council”.
A second allegation of wrongdoing involved financial irregularities. The Minister said some of those allegations were considered by the previous investigation. He says the Department and Cavan Council continue to work together, saying further actions may be taken, beyond those taken by the Council.
