Department investigating damage to 3,000 year old Cavan hill fort

The Department of Heritage is carrying out an investigation after a historic hill fort in Cavan was damaged.

The “vitrified” hill fort was the only known one on the island and was believed to be around 3,000 years old. The site is located on private land in the Shantemon area near Castletara.

The Department of Heritage has confirmed to Northern Sound News that it launched an investigation after the damage was reported to it on May 15th. A Spokesperson said the investigation is ongoing and representatives have visited the site.
