Drivers urged to take care as sleet and snow lead to slippy conditions in Cavan and Monaghan

Drivers are urged to take care on roads across the region today as wintry showers have been reported.

Met Éireann had issued a status yellow warning for snow and ice in Cavan, Donegal and Connacht overnight.

It expired this morning.

A weather advisory for cold and wintry weather remains in place until tomorrow afternoon.

The forecaster says snow showers will be most frequent on higher ground in Ulster and Connacht.

Showers of sleet and snow have led to hazardous driving conditions in some parts of the region today, with snow causing disruption in parts of Cavan this morning.

Temperatures today are expected to reach between 4 and 6 degrees.
