There were 77 fewer burglaries and related offences recorded by Gardaí locally last year. The number dropped from 486 to 409. There was only one instance of a person found in possession of an article with intent to burgle, in 2017 there were 7.
The only category within burglaries to see an increase in 2018 was reports of aggravated burglaries. It more than doubled from 3 to 8. There were 62 more thefts locally last year, however it only represented a 6 per cent increase.
There were 25 more thefts of vehicles, and 32 more thefts from shops. Incidents of fraud and deception increased by just over 13 per cent, from 168 to 191.
