There was a broad welcome to new recreation projects across Monaghan and Cavan would benefit from over €1.2m funding announced earlier this week.
Eight different projects across the two counties will benefit from the funding from the Department of Rural Affairs.
Over €715,000 will go to projects in Cavan, including the development of walking trails in Mullagh, and the development of the Cavan Town Railway Greenway.
Chairperson of Kingscourt Community Development Association Clifford Kelly said the community was ‘delighted’ to receive the funding.
€500,000 will go to two projects in Ballybay, the development of the Clones loop of the Kingfisher Cycle Trail and the upgrading of the Lough Muckno Leisure Park.
Cllr Sean Gilliland said works towards the projects will be underway if not completed by the summer.
