€20 million fund to tackle deadly superbug found in Irish hospitals, including Cavan

The Government is to spend €20 million to tackle a deadly superbug in Irish hospitals.

CPE was declared a national emergency in 2017, with the infection first reported in Ireland in 2009. Cavan Hospital is among those to have been hit by the bug. The Surgical One ward was closed due to an outbreak last year.

The €20 million plan will work to increase public awareness of CPE and it includes measures for screening in hospitals.
