Election 19: Local election news roundup

Sinn Féin’s Geradline Harten says she’ll work to highlight issues with care and health services in Cavan.

In her first electoral contest, she’s running in the Ballyjamesduff MD.

She says there’s a post code lottery for people across the country, with different regions getting different amounts of funding, with people in the region not getting the support they deserve.

Fine Gael’s Peter McVitty says the survival of rural communities is a priority for him in this election.

The Cavan-Belturbet candidate says he wants to see continued funding for community and voluntary groups in the region who work for the benefit of people in the area.

He also says he wants better provision of services like healthcare, particularly in the number of available hospital beds.

Carrickmacross-Castleblayney candidate PJ O’Hanlon has called for movement on the provision of a new C:Tek enterprise building in Carrickmacross.

He says the existing building has been such a success that the Council should build another.

The Fianna Fáil candidate says the building is needed to create jobs in the area and promote economic growth in the south Monaghan area.
