Eleven local election candidates hoping for one of six seats in Cavan-Belturbet MD

The Cavan-Belturbet area sees six seats available and 11 candidates contesting.

Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil are both running three candidates in this area.

Fine Gael sees sitting Councillors Peter McVitty and Madeline Argue hoping to win re-election, with former Councillor Seán McKiernan Jnr moving from the Bailieborough area to run here.

Fianna Fáil is running incumbents Seán Smith and John Paul Feeley, as well as former Town and County Councillor Patricia Walsh from Cavan town.

Sinn Féin has a two candidate ticket with sitting Councillors Damien Brady and Daniel Downey running. Downey was co-opted onto the Council in 2017 after the resignation of Eugene Greenan.

Liam van der Spek runs for the Labour Party, with Emmett Smith running for People Before Profit.

Publican Brendan Fay is the only independent candidate running in this area and, indeed, in all of County Cavan.
