Energy Minister to meet with opponents of the North South Interconnector in the New Year

The Energy Minister is to meet with opponents of the North South Interconnector in the New Year.

Denis Naughten has agreed to meet with the Co Monaghan Anti-Pylon Committee – after it was revealed earlier this week that Eirgrid’s controversial North South Interconnector has been given the green light.

In a statement to Northern Sound News Minister Heather Humphreys says Minister Naughten has agreed to the meeting following her request, and that she will progress this in the New Year.

Minister Humphreys says the decision of An Bord Pleanala granting approval for the North South Interconnector will come as a huge disappointment to the families and landowners in Cavan and Monaghan who have been campaigning on this issue for years.

However she says it is important to note that planning process is still on-going in Northern Ireland and there is a long way to go before the final outcome for this project is determined.

Meanwhile, Fine Gael Councillor in Monaghan Sean Gilliland says that the people affected by the project, will not let it proceed without being undergrounded.
