EPA report finds that 11 private water supplies in Cavan were not monitored for e-coli last year

An Environmental Protection Agency report has found that 11 private water supplies in Cavan were not monitored for e-coli last year.

The EPA has analysed the quality of private supplies across the country – saying they’re much poorer than public sources.

The watchdog says the dangerous bacteria E coli was found in 62 supplies in 2018.

Nationally, more than 1,000 people got a dangerous infection from drinking contaminated drinking water last year.

Speaking on The Wider View, EPA inspector Michelle Minihan (PRON: Moynihan) said the local authority is responsible for monitoring the water supply, but that the authority needs to be informed of the private supply.
