Facebook has admitted it didn’t remove a post containing ‘offensive material’ aimed at Quinn Industrial Holdings directors until after the attack on Kevin Lunney.
A number of Facebook pages and posts about directors of Quinn Industrial Holdings had been removed due to threats and abuse.
However Committee Chair Caoimhghín Ó’Caoláin asked why a post was not taken down until after the abduction and assault last month.
Facebook’s Dualta O Broin told the Oireachtas Justice Committee the post was reported to them before the assault but it wasn’t found to be in breach of its community standards:
The post was deleted following the abduction in Co. Fermanagh last month after it was ‘re-reviewed’.
Gardaí and the PSNI are continuing to investigate the attack but no arrests have so far been made.
