Fianna Fail has added two candidates to the local election ticket in Cavan and Monaghan.
In the Bailieborough-Cootehill area, former local councillor Gerry Murray will replace outgoing councillor Fergal Curtin, who announced he wouldn’t contest the election in May, citing increased family and work commitments. The Lavey native was a councillor in County Cavan for 30 years, and was chairperson of Cavan County Council between 1992 and 1993.
Meanwhile, Oram’s Aoife McCooey will join Councillor PJ O’Hanlon and Rory McEvoy in the Carrickmacross-Castleblayney MD. It was after calls for the party to have representation in both towns of the south Monaghan electoral area.
