‘Fianna Fáil will not force Fine Gael to underground the North-South Interconnector’

A local Senator says it would be “a sad day for democracy” if Fianna Fáil forced Fine Gael to underground the North-South Interconnector.

Robbie Gallagher is among those calling for the project to be put underground, but he says local people would be “disappointed” if Fianna Fáil forced the Government to intervene.

An Bord Pleanála approved the project before Christmas after an oral hearing into it was held earlier in 2016.

However, the planning process in Northern Ireland has not yet begun.

There have been calls for Fianna Fáil to pull support for the minority Fine Gael Government, but local Senator Robbie Gallagher doesn’t agree.
